Book release by DKA on the occasion of Konkani Day
To commemorate the inclusion of Konknni in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution, Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) had organised books release function at Hotel Nanutel, Roof Top Hall, Margao, on August 20th, 2010.
The second edition of Sonvsara Bhonvtim Yontram, a book on science by late Fr. Antonio Francisco Sousa, and Sopon, a series of 10 plays by Mr. James Fernandes are the two literary books released at the function, which was largely attended by the people.
The Chief Guest for the day was senior most Konknni activist Mr. Antonio da Piedade Morais, who congratulated Mr. James Fernandes on the occasion, and requested the gathering to preserve Konknni, the symbol of Goan identity. He also congratulated DKA for working relentlessly for the development of Konknni in Roman script under the dynamic presidency of Mr. Premanand A. Lotlikar.
Though Dalgado Konknni Akademi working for the development of Konknni in Roman script, still it has nothing against Devnagari, for "we want the development of Konknni in both the scripts equally well," said the president of DKA Mr. Premanand A. Lotlikar. While congratulating Mr. James Fernandes, the writer of Sopon book, Mr. Lotlikar brought to the notice of the gathering that some vested interests are trying to suppress Romi script by identifying it with inquistion, and protested against the same.
DKA secretary Jose Salvador Fernandes spoke on the book Sonvsara Bhonvtim Yontram and Mr. Sanjay Talwadkar spoke on Sopon book.
DKA treasurer Thomas C. Fernandes welcomed the gathering and Mrs. Fatima D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks. Mr.Cosma Fernandes compered the function.
At the end of the function, a part of Kidd play, which is included in Sopon book was also staged on this occassion.
